Review - Cafe du Cycliste Marine Lollipop Short Sleeve Jersey
The Marine Lollipop jersey from Café du Cycliste comes from the French brand's 'Colour Collection'. With a great fit, and some beautiful detailing, it is a real modern classic.
Café du Cycliste were one of the first brands that I reviewed here on Life In The Saddle. Back in 2013, I featured the Cafe du Cycliste Yolande jersey. Since those early days, both for the blog and for the Nice-based clothing brand, things have developed and evolved dramatically.
The Marine Lollipop jersey epitomises the growth of the Café du Cycliste brand; it uses many classic design features, but also brings in new and exciting features and fabrics.
According to the size guide, I should be a Small (96cm chest), but after trying on that size I instead opted for the slightly less 'compressive' fit of a Medium (note: this is the size I would wear in brands like Castelli and Sportful). The larger size still has a good form-fitting profile, with a comfortable level of compression.
Examples of these details on the Marine Lollipop jersey include things like the hidden zipper and 'No Signal' badge. These little extras to the norm are what make the jersey something a bit different.
Practical details have also been considered though, with a small zippered pocket for valuables, and some reflective trim on the rear of the garment. This a good demonstration of brand that tests and develops their riding kit, rather than concentrating solely on the looks.
The jersey is impressive: from the moment you unpack it, to the end of your ride.
Stylish, comfortable, and made to a great quality level. A performance jersey both in look and feel.

Compression fit
The Marine Lollipop jersey is sold as a 'Race-Cut' garment; with a low collar, and a compression fit. The fabric itself is a medium-weight, high-stretch material; this facilitates the close fitting cut, without making it uncomfortable.According to the size guide, I should be a Small (96cm chest), but after trying on that size I instead opted for the slightly less 'compressive' fit of a Medium (note: this is the size I would wear in brands like Castelli and Sportful). Signature details
The main thing I recall from my review of the Yolande jersey, is the level of attention to detail in the Café du Cycliste design. As with any high-end brand, it is the little things that make a big difference.Examples of these details on the Marine Lollipop jersey include things like the hidden zipper and 'No Signal' badge. Fabric Breathability
The only slight downside I can find with the Café du Cycliste Marine Lollipop jersey, is that the fabric is not overly breathable. Compared to some of the lighter-weight options available on the market today, it did become quite damp with perspiration on hotter rides.
This is not necessarily a negative; as in the early and late season, the added warmth and wind protection from the fabric could be seen as a benefit. For the really hot days though, I would choose something else.
Stand out
To sum up... the colour of the Lollipop jersey certainly makes it (and you) stand out. Luckily, it merits drawing attention to itself. The jersey is impressive: from the moment you unpack it, to the end of your ride.
