Guided Rides
There will be two ride groups on each ride, both with a dedicated ride leader who will also supply mechanical support on the trail. The two groups will be 'In Search of Up' and 'Wight Lite'; the first will be a faster group taking on more challenging rides with additional climbing, the second will be a more casual ride group that will use flatter and shorter routes to provide an easier option. Riders can self-select which group they ride in, and can change groups between the morning and afternoon rides on Saturday.
There is a locked barn where bikes will be stored at night.
How do I get to the Isle of Wight?
We can book a Wightlink ferry passenger ticket for you from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head. This is an extra £15 per person. We will meet you at Ryde Pier head, and your bags will be collected before we ride the 10 miles to the farm. Riders should aim to catch the 16:40 Wightlink Fast Cat from Portsmouth Harbour, which arrives at Ryde Pier Head at 17:05. Our team will meet you there. If you prefer to arrange your own transport to the Isle of Wight, we can meet you at the farm on Friday evening.
How long/tough are the rides?
There will be two riding groups on every ride throughout the weekend: "In Search of Up" and "Wight Lite". Routes will be sent as GPX files to participants one week ahead of the event, but all rides will be fully guided at all times. Riders can self-select which group they ride in and can change groups between the morning and afternoon rides on Saturday.
APPROXIMATE ride distances/profiles for each group:
In Search of Up
Saturday (AM): 3.5 hours – 50 kilometres – 1000 metres ascent
Saturday (PM): 3 hours – 50 kilometres – 1000 metres ascent
Sunday (AM): 4 hours – 80 kilometres – 1500 metres ascent
Wight Lite
Saturday (AM): 3.5 hours 40 kilometres – 750 metres ascent
Saturday (PM): 3 hours 20 kilometres – 750 metres ascent
Sunday (AM): 4 hours 50 kilometres – 1000 metres ascent
What equipment should I bring?
Riders should be aim to be self-sufficient whilst on the trail. They will be accompanied by ride leaders at all times, but these leaders are only there to help with mechanicals and will not carry enough spares for the whole group. Riders should bring spares of their own e.g. Inner Tubes, Multi-tool, Tyre Levers, Puncture Repair Kit. A ride leader will assist in repairs if possible, but on the understanding that if a mechanical is not fixable on the trail then riders must expect to find their own way back to The Garlic Farm (e.g. taxi), as vehicle support is not available.
Riders must also bring sufficient nutrition and fluids to keep themselves fuelled throughout the duration of the rides.
