Review – Fizik Terra Ergolace X2 Mountain Biking Shoes

Review Fizik Terra Ergolace X2 Mountain Biking Shoes
The fi'zi:k Terra Ergolace X2 is a rugged and adaptable mountain biking shoe, with a traditional lacing system and semi-flexible lugged sole; giving it a more casual look and feel, and offering the versatility to also use the shoe as a casual off-bike shoe.

The Terra Ergolace X2 is happy tackling any terrain—both on and off the bike, thanks to the versatile fabrics and sole tread pattern. I have been utilising this shoe mainly for running everyday errands and shopping trips rather than on the slopes of a mountain; but in this domain as well, the Terra Ergolace X2 excels…

Ergolace Technology

The fi'zi:k Ergolace technology refers to the unique way the shoe's uppers and lacing system combine together to provide maximum support for the foot.

The upper of the Terra X2 is made from hardwearing ripstop woven fabrics, and has an asymmetric traditional lacing system. The flexible fabric and lacing system allows you to adjust the volume within the shoe and create a cradle of support around your foot's arch, resulting in a highly comfortable fit.

The lacing system is smart and subtle, and looks far more 'ordinary' than the bulk of the dials and straps of many mountain biking shoes. The laces, as well as the PU-laminated toecap and side reinforcements, also mean that the Terra X2 displays impressive durability even when being knocked-around on off-road and everyday adventures. This is a shoe ready to head out into nature, or to stroll down city streets.

X2 Outsole Technology

The X2 uses a compressed EVA midsole to provide stability and cushioning for the foot. Then, on the underside of the shoe the Vibram Megagrip rubber tread ensures the rider gets a good grip and plenty of traction on the pedals and on the trail.

The balance between stiffness for pedalling and flexibility for walking is perfectly attained with the Terra X2—making this a great shoe both on and off the bike.

The sole has a cut-out and screw plate to accommodate two-bolt style SPD clip-in cleats. I have been using mine with the Crankbrothers Double Shot 2 Hybrid Clip-In Pedals.

Sizing

I wear an EU45 in most shoe brands, and this size remained my preferred option for the fizik Terra X2 shoes. The shoes are slightly on the snug side though, so if you are marginal and sometimes need to size up, then I would consider doing so with these shoes.

Summary

Overall, the fizik Terra X2 shoes are a comfortable, versatile, and durable pair of cycling shoes, which are as comfortable on the slopes of a mountain as they are on the city streets. Well-made and well designed—they are a winner from the Italian brand.
