A handlebar bag is an undeniably useful addition to any adventure bike; allowing you to carry valuables and long ride essentials safe and close to hand. The new Chrome Industries Doubletrack Handlebar Sling Bag takes the concept of a handlebar bag and makes it even more useful and versatile; by allowing it to also be adapted into a sling shoulder bag or hip pack.

The Doubletrack Handlebar Sling Bag has a vintage look and feel to it. The hard-wearing water-resistant canvas construction, with the leather logo patch and roll-top closure, instantly appeals for its retro heritage style.

Chrome's signature styling is the start of the Doubletrack handlebar, but the real merit in this design lies in the practical details…

Storage comes in the form of the main compartment with its roll-top closure and magnetic fid-lock clasp—though the brand does not claim this compartment to be waterproof, it has proven to be very weatherproof. There are then two mesh pockets on the side of the bag for easy access items, and a daisy chain of webbing straps for clip-on attachments.

Bag mounting takes the form of two webbing straps that will universally fit to any road or MTB handlebars. There is also a stabilising strap that wraps around the headtube. The Doubletrack bag does sit quite high on the handlebars, so if you use an out-front computer mount you may find it a little difficult to access the bag; but this is a frequent 'problem' with handlebar bags and can solved with a different computer mount.

When unmounted from the bike, you can deploy the stowable cross-body / hip strap, with its quick release buckle. This strap is a neat and particularly useful feature—I have actually used the bag for hiking trips as well as cycling.

As with other Chrome bags that I have tested in the past, the Chrome Industries Doubletrack Handlebar Sling Bag is beautifully made and impressively durable— it actually seems to improve in style as it weathers and ages. Chrome back up this impression of quality with a lifetime guarantee.

Recipe – The Ultimate High Energy Flapjacks

This traditional flapjack recipe is packed full of energy for long days on the bike. The oats supply a great low-GI fuel source, while the dried fruit offers instant energy and sweetness. Review – TRP Spyre SLC Cable Disc Brakes

Cable actuated disc brakes get a lot of bad press. There is some justification for that — most of the systems lack the modulation and performance of their hydraulic counterparts. There is however one set of cable disc brakes that shines above the rest: the TRP Spyre SLC Disc Brake. This lightweight and sleek cable disc caliper excels in both design and functionality. Review – SunRace CS MX80 (MX8) 11-46T Cassette for SRAM

If you are running a SRAM Force or Rival 1X drivetrain set-up, then you may well find yourself wishing for a lower gear, especially on bikepacking adventures. The SunRace MX80 / MX8 11-46 tooth cassettes supply two additional low ratio gears than you get on the standard 11-42T SRAM cassette. That is an upgrade worth considering... On my Kona Sutra LTD build , I was concerned about a lack of low end gear spread for the Tour Divide . Whilst pure grunt will usually get you up most things on an 11-42T cassette, I thought with the cumulative fatigue and long climbs on this 21 day bikepacking route, I might need something lower...
