Review – Vulpine Mens Opus Cycling Jeans

We all have a favourite pair of jeans; denim that gets worn day-in-day-out, whether you are heading down to the pub or into the office. For me, the Opus jeans from Vulpine have become that pair. These are cycling jeans that are smart enough for almost every occasion, but practical and comfortable enough to be worn all day, on and off the bike.

Let's start with the basics, the fabric… the Vulpine Opus jeans are made from a soft and stretchy cotton elastane blend, utilising Repreve TruTemp365® recycled fibres—which offer moisture wicking and high breathability performance. The fabric is soft against the skin and flexible enough to allow you to move and stretch as you ride. Old school jeans would be stiff and abrasive when pedalling a bike, but the Vulpine Opus Jeans allow you to spin the pedals with ease and extraordinarily little restriction.

Next up, seams… or rather, seam placement. Seams are irritating, and when you are sat on a bicycle saddle the seam that runs through the seat of a pair of jeans is downright uncomfortable. The Vulpine Opus jeans use a seamless D gusset where the seat of the trousers is in contact with a bike saddle; you cannot see that they are any different from a normal pair of jeans at a glance, but the comfort improvement is definitely notable. Nobody likes chafing.

Then there are the finer details… Vulpine have paid attention to the little things with the Opus Jeans—they sum together to make a real difference. Reflective detailing is added through subtle piping on the rear pockets and on the drive-side turn up to help improve your road presence in city traffic.

The fit is also cycling specific, with a raised rear waistband that helps keep the jeans in place while riding, and knee darts for ease of movement as you spin along.

Incredibly comfortable, smart, practical, and stylish. The Opus jeans from Vulpine tick all the boxes for a pair of casual trousers for casual bike riding. The ideal pair of jeans for riding around town, running errands, and making bike usage more comfortable and practical. Worn and washed time and time again, mine are as good as ever and rarely make it back to the wardrobe.
