Review – Otterbox Defender iPhone 11 Phone Case
A phone is an essential piece of equipment for a bike ride. Cyclists use their phones for staying connected, calling in emergencies, and documenting their adventures. A good phone case is a well justified accessory though, as the life of a smartphone can be a tough one in a cyclist’s jersey pocket. The Otterbox Defender Case is a quality modular bumper phone case, which supplies superb drop protection and functionality for your iPhone.
I am familiar with the Otterbox brand, having used their Defender case on an iPad for several years. That case has saved the iPad from many drops, knocks, and spills; even when the device has been carried to work in a pannier on a daily cycle commute. It was with this familiarity and reliability in mind that I selected the Otterbox Defender as my choice for a robust phone case to keep my smartphone safe on cycling adventures.
The latest Otterbox Defender case features several great upgrades, as well as keeping all the winning qualities of the older Defender series.
The phone is housed in a two-part shell case; composed of a rigid plastic jacket that snaps around the phone, and a rubber bumper layer that stretches over the plastic jacket. The two-part design helps to protect the phone from impacts and recesses the screen and camera within the case to avoid them being scratched on surfaces; the rubber outer layer has a great tactile feel that is easy to grip in your hand.
There is no screen cover on the Otterbox Defender, but the brand does sell a superb range of screen protectors that will stop your screen getting damaged by scratches and impacts. What the case does include is a third part of the shell coverage, which clips over either the front or back of the phone and features a belt clip come phone stand. This is a neat little addition, and although it does add quite a bit of bulk to the phone, it is useful to supply added protection, or if you want to watch films on your phone.
This phone case is a robust, smart, and well thought out design. It has already protected my phone from several knocks, and it continues to be a pleasure to use. It is quite a chunky design, but I view that as a benefit in that it is easier to keep a hold on.
Otterbox has done it again—this Defender case is a winning companion.
