Review – Zilfer Cycling Phone Wallet

Zilfer Cycling Phone Wallet
Carrying your phone, cards, ID, and spare change with you when you cycle is essential; but storing them unprotected in your jersey pocket is asking for trouble. The Zilfer Cycling Phone Wallet is a neat solution from the Australian brand; a means to keep your valuables together and safe, both on and off the bike.

The design of the wallet is simple enough – the phone slides into one side, and on the other half there are four slots for cards, and a larger sleeve for things like receipts or paper money. The phone wallet then folds in two, and on the back panel there is a zipper compartment for coins and a house key.

The Zilfer Cycling Phone Wallet is made from a water resistant and durable material, to help protect the contents. This material is smart enough in appearance that you could use it every day, and Zilfer have consciously only implemented subtle branding to further promote this versatility. The phone wallet does also come with a protective pouch, which can be used to slip the wallet into during particularly inclement weather conditions.

I have been using the Zilfer wallet for the last few weeks, and it is a smart little package. I have only two criticisms of the design: the first, is that with an iPhone 7/8 sized phone in the wallet it will not comfortably remain folded; rather it tries to 'open' when laid on a table; I would prefer from a security point of view that it remained 'closed'. The second criticism is that it seems a bit of a juxtaposition to create a waterproof cycling wallet that requires an additional pouch to provide sufficient protection from the elements; other designs of cycling wallets I have tested tend to completely enclose the contents in a water-resistant/waterproof capsule (using a waterproof zipper), without the need for a further layer of protection.

These two criticisms of the Zilfer Cycling Phone Wallet may be unjustified for some: with a smaller phone size the wallet should remain folded; equally if you do not tend to ride in the rain then the wallet would provide sufficient protection without the additional pouch. If these two cases apply to you, then the Zilfer wallet is a great 'every ride carry', and a superb way to stay organised and safe.
