Review – Santini Adapt Winter Cycling Bib Tights

Santini Adapt Winter Cycling Bib Tights
Santini remain a historic brand in the world of cycling, yet their products are far from antique. The Santini Adapt Winter Bib Tights are some of the most technically advanced and best performing winter cycle wear I have used to date; using state-of-the-art Polartec fabrics, seamless technology, and a fantastic fit. These are ideal cycling tights for spring/fall and early winter riding.

The Adapt range from Santini is designed for versatility. As the name suggests, the fabrics chosen for these products are intended to be suitable for a wide range of temperature and weather conditions.

The Adapt Bib Tights glean their adaption capabilities from the Polartec Smartwool fabric used in their construction. Smartwool is a unique blend of wool and synthetic yarns; creating a fabric that holds all the exceptional thermo-regulation capabilities of wool, but with added durability and improved wicking capabilities of synthetics.

The Powerwool fabric really is next-level. It is beautifully soft and supple, but also super warm. I have not seen a fabric like this used in bib tights before (although I did review a Norrona mountain bike jersey using the same technology); but it undoubtedly shows great performance in leg wear, where the stretch is vital, but so too is the thermal protection.

The comfort of the Santini Adapt Bib Tights is also enhanced by the superb fit. I have been testing a Medium sized pair of tights, and they have a superb close-fitting profile. Raw cut Lycra straps and minimal seams mean that there is no irritation; while the lower cuff of the tights is simply a stretchy band rather than a potentially problematic zipper. The great fit undoubtedly goes together with the great fabric choice and creates a body-hugging thermal layer.

Other notable features on the Santini Adapt Bib Tights include the smart iridescent reflective detailing on the lower leg, as well as the comfortable C3 chamois pad. The C3 chamois pad is one of the best endurance riding pads I have tested; thanks to the contoured pad thickness and gel inserts it can provide exceptional comfort even on super long mile days.

Overall, the Santini Adapt Winter Bib Tights are an impressive package. Suitable for temperatures between 5 degrees and 15 degrees Celsius, they are the perfect early winter tight. The Polartec Smartwool fabric provides fantastic thermal regulation and stretch comfort, while the fit and profiling of the tights is second to none. The chamois pad is also a great endurance option, and the designers have even added other extras like the reflective detailing. There is little not to like with these bib tights, and certainly they have become one of my go-to options this winter.
