Christmas Gift Ideas and Stocking Fillers for Cyclists 2020

Cyclists can be a tricky bunch when it comes to Christmas gifts, with their peculiar fashions and particular tastes. These gift ideas for cyclists are my personal suggestions for great presents that almost any bike rider would appreciate.

From solutions for smelly feet and long dark wet winter rides, to cleaning kits, care products, and the finest coffee outside of Italy. There should be something for cyclists of all backgrounds and ages—whether you are looking for a Secret Santa idea, special gift, or simply a stocking filler.

Muc-Off Rainproof Essentials Case

With the Muc-Off Rainproof Essentials Case you can keep your valuables clean and dry as you ride through the winter weather. Made with a water-resistant fabric and featuring a waterproof zipper; the jersey pocket-sized wallet can house essentials like a phone, keys, cards, and coins; or mechanical aids like a multitool and inner tube. The internal divider and zippered compartment mean you can keep objects separated to avoid damage as you ride. An essential accessory for all-weather riding.

Ass Savers Mudder Mini Detour Front Mudguard

Ass Savers created the original saddle-rail mounted super-lightweight mudguard, seen on thousands of bikes, including many in the pro peloton. The new Mudder Mini Detour Front Mudguard is designed for gravel bikes with tyres in the 38-45c width range. It mounts on the underside of the fork crown and creates an effective barrier against debris and water that can be carried up on the tyre, flung out in front of the bike, and then come hurtling back to hit you in the face… A worthwhile investment.

Boot Bananas Original Shoe Deodorisers

This small company based on the South Coast of the UK has come up with an ingenious solution to smelly cycling shoes. Their cotton bananas are filled with naturally absorbent bamboo charcoal, sodium bicarbonate, zeolite, dried lavender flowers, and essential oils. Place them in your shoes and they absorb moisture, neutralise odours, and give your shoes and garage a fresh smell of wildflowers. A superb accessory.

AXA Roll Cable Mini Lock

The AXA Roll lock is the perfect solution to those times when you need to leave your bike out of sight for a brief period of time, such as trips to the café, shopping runs, and overnight camps on bikepacking adventures. It is so light that you will barely notice it in a jersey pocket or pannier; but it offers great peace of mind that no-one will walk off with your wheels.

Fuel10K Protein Oat Flapjack Bars

All cyclists know that flapjack is the king of fuels. Sometimes there is no time to make my 'Ultimate Flapjack' recipe though, so having a healthy pre-made alternative is essential. The Fuel10K Protein Flapjack bars are tasty, natural, and pack 9 grams of protein per 45-gram bar. The perfect thing to stash in your jersey pocket.

Weleda Skin Care and Arnica Range

Winter riding calls for a bit of pampering. Your skin takes a battering (quite literally) when you are riding through wind, rain, snow, and mud. Bring some life back into your face, hands, lips and legs with Weleda's Skin Care range. Their 100 percent natural skincare is the best I have used to keep skin happy and healthy through hours of outdoor pursuits. For tired and strained muscles, it is also well worth checking out their Arnica range of products.

Moon Sport Sirius Pro Rear Bike Light

I have been using Moon Sport Lights for most of 2020—they are outstandingly good. The Sirius Pro Rear Light is their performance level taillight, which pumps out an incredible 350 lumens of light on max power. The intelligent motion sensors built into the light help to tailor the light output level to the ambient light conditions; helping to both increase visibility and prolong battery life. Quite easily the best rear bike light I have tested to date. Full feature review coming soon.

Moon Sport Meteor Vortex Pro Front Light

This is the equivalently excellent front light from Moon Sport—the Meteor Vortex Pro is a compact but powerful, and highly versatile front bike light. Supplying a huge 1300 lumens on max steady light output, it is easily enough to light up any road or trail. Thanks to the variable lumen system the battery life is also impressive in the middle power range modes. To ensure maximum usage, there is no shortage of mounting options either; with a helmet mount, handlebar mount, and remote control all provided within the Pro edition package. Ride safe on those dark winter days.

Moon Sport Merak Front and Rear Safety Light Set

The Merak Light Set from Moon is designed as a 'Be Seen' set of lights for urban riding and commuting. It uses easily replaceable CR2032 batteries, and mounts using a smart magnetic quick-release system. On max flash output, both lights give out 100 lumens of power with impressive side-on visibility. The inexpensive Merak also keeps many of the excellent features of Moon's higher end lights, such as mode memory and complete waterproofness (IPX4). These are an ideal back-up light or additional visibility light.

Finally, a bit of Christmas bling. The gold KMC X11 TI-N Bike Chain will add some sparkle to any bike, and offers the ultimate performance chain for SRAM, Shimano, or Campagnolo 11-speed drivetrains. KMC bicycle chains are engineered to last, and I find they easily do 5000 kilometres before they needing to be replaced; that should be enough to keep you riding through those long winter miles.
